A wealthy Jewish flax merchant decides to use his money to free an imprisoned innkeeper rather than complete a lucrative business deal, so the poretz offers him the deal anyway. The merchant's kindly ways are eventually rewarded when his two sons go on to become leaders of the Jewish people.
